Bypass Road to Panjappur from Tuuvakudi, Madurai and Pudukottai ready now.

 The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has completed the second phase of the Trichy Semi-Ring Road connecting three National Highways (NHs): Tuvakudi in Trichy-Thanjavur NH to Panjapur in Trichy-Madurai NH and Mathur in Trichy-Pudukottai. At the same time, NHAI will commission new toll plazas and start collecting tolls from vehicles using the road. Work on a new road bridge (RoB) over the railway track in Kumaramangalam village was recently completed after commissioning of the second phase was delayed. “Stress tests have been conducted to measure the stability of the RoB. 

 The pending portion of Stage II will be completed in November 2023 We are planning to open it for vehicular traffic by then,” said a senior NHAI official.

The final stages of various works are underway, including adding road markings and painting the RoB retaining wall. Road leveling work is also progressing. "Once the RoB becomes operational, the new toll plaza between Tuvakudi and Mathur will become operational.

The charges have been finalized and an authority will be appointed to collect the toll," the official added. The new toll plaza near Palanganankudi will have six lanes.

 The total length of the road is 25 km, of which the 14 km section between Thuvakudi and Mathur has already been completed and is in use. With the completion of the next section, the entire Phase II will be available to relieve the southern and eastern areas of the city. 


This bypass will connect major destinations such as Trichy International Airport, upcoming Punjabpur Integrated Bus Terminal (IBT), two SIDCO Industrial Parks, and world-class educational institutions such as NIT Trichy and IIM Trichy.
