25 acres of fallow land has been converted for lemon cultivation in Lalgudi

25 acres of fallow land has been converted into cultivable land for lemon cultivation, thanks to the state agriculture department's coordinated efforts with other government departments under the Kalaignarin All Village Integrated Agriculture Development Program (KAVIADP).

Various departments have spent close to '26 lakh on the project - '7.65 lakh for drip irrigation, '10 lakh for two borewells, '5 lakh for ground water management, '1 lakh for a farm pond, '1.68 lakh for lemon seedlings and '65,000 for land development.

"Digging pits and planting seedlings is our job. The government takes care of all other requirements. Though we have chosen thorny plants to escape from wild animal attack, the entire land needs to be fenced with wire net to be confident about protecting the crop. We appeal to the government to do the fencing as we don't have the resources to do that," Thangadurai said.
