Tiruchirappalli International Airport ranks 14th in terms of foreign arrivals

 Due to the spread of corona virus in 2019, not only ground transportation but also air services were affected all over the world. The Central Government, which banned international flight services in India from March 23, 2020, allowed only special flights to rescue Indians living abroad.



This affected the foreign exchange and domestic production of the country. Due to this the tourism development of the country was affected and 2.15 crore people lost their jobs. In India, after 2 years, the central government has given permission to provide international air services from March 27, 2022. Following this, the foreign air service is being gradually increased.

In this regard, the Union Ministry of Tourism has recently published the data of foreign tourists who visited India from January to May. Out of this, 16,01,381 foreigners came to India as tourists from January to May.

Last May alone, 4,23,701 people visited. Among them, 27.80 percent came from America, 23.47 percent from Bangladesh, 7.58 percent from England, 4.02 percent from Australia, and 3.65 percent from Canada.


Also, 25.57 percent of foreign visitors from the United States, 15.86 percent from Bangladesh, 11.65 percent from England, 6.10 percent from Australia, and 5.70 percent from Canada visited India.


Among the top 15 airports that played a major role in foreign arrivals to India,
Delhi Airport topped the list with 35.50 percent.
2nd is Mumbai Airport (14.58 per cent),
3rd is Chennai Airport (9.92 per cent),
4th is Haridaspur Airport (7 per cent) and
5th is Bengaluru Airport (6.06 per cent).

Out of this, Trichy Airport is ranked 14th with 0.85 percent.


In the number of foreign tourists visiting India in May, Delhi Airport is at the top with 25.90 per cent followed by Mumbai (14.58 per cent).

Trichy Airport is ranked 13th with 1.16 percent.



Trichy airport officials said that if foreign arrivals to India are to increase in the future, they need to promote India as a 365-day tourist destination and develop a road map for structured and sustainable tourism.
