As part of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) urban, Swachh Survekshan 2023 is a pan-Indian cleanliness survey. Out of 446 large cities throughout the country that took part in the survey, Trichy got rank 112 and has been crowned the cleanest city in Tamil Nadu (population of above one lakh).

Among the 446 large cities nationwide that participated in the study, not a single city from Tamil Nadu made it into the top 100 rankings.
